Layla Klinger | לילה קלינגר

Freshpaint 11

Layla Klinger (b. 1993), grew up in Tel Aviv and is currently based in New York City. She received her BFA in Textile Design from Shenkar College of Design, Art and Engineering (2018), and is currently pursuing an MFA in Textiles at Parsons School of Art and Design. Klinger’s works stem from an obsession with fibers, and deal with textile and crafts through intense, repetitive thread manipulation. Their themes center around the intersection of materiality, history and cultural context, with an emphasis on body, craft and space.

Klinger’s works have been presented in galleries and exhibitions in Israel and the United States. She has also created site-specific installation works for art festivals, including Nightlight Festival (2018), Sheikh Abrik Festival (2018) and FRATZ Festival (2019). Klinger is the recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation excellence scholarship (2017), Parsons School of Art and Design Provost scholarships (2019) and The New School University scholarship (2019).
