Barak Rubin (b. 1987) is an active artist based in Tel Aviv-Jaffa. He has a BFA (Photography Department) and an MFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. He represented Bezalel in Tokyo and was the recipient of the Third Bezalel Photography Prize. His work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions.
In his work, Rubin critically examines the relationship between religion and myth. Referencing diverse geographical and cultural sources, he uses photography and three-dimensional platforms in order to interpret and reinvent traditional forms of practice and belief. He is concerned with creating a visual representation which lies between ritual culture and historical artefacts and narratives. This enables him to convey familiar yet innovative imagery, and produce contemporary relics of perception.
