Maya Shimony | מאיה שמעוני

Maya Shimony holds a B.Ed. from HaMidrasha and an MFA from Bezalel Academy. She is currently awaiting to resume installation of her new solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Artists’ Studios, which was due to open March 2020.

In her works, Maya Shimony juggles times and places in order to uncover the underlying forces which affect our lives through seemingly innocuous images. The starting point is usually images extracted from contemporary media or concrete local surroundings. Using a range of painting styles – Renaissance paintings, Medieval gilded icons, Persian miniatures or monumental murals – she sets them in a different temporal or cultural context, intrinsically involved with their origin.
